Lost Maxwell Tartan?

In a recent edition of The House of Maxwell newsletter, Donald Maxwell (Germany) told of a lost, early Maxwell tartan described as a “white sett.” Could this English figurine hold the key to that “lost tartan?” Al Reeder (California) came across this picture and its accompanying description:

“SCOTTISH MAN FIGURINE BY RADNOR.”

Bottom says: RADNOR, BONE CHINA, ENGLAND. Also, there is a name ending in what looks to be ‘ELL’ which is partially worn off.

It is a lovely piece that stands 7” high.

Perhaps it would take expertise in Radnor bone china to unlock the mystery of this figurine. There are many questions, such as:

  • Does the tartan on the figurine match the description of the lost, early Maxwell tartan?

  • Does the figurine depict some known Maxwell? If you can help answer any of these questions or shed light on the subject in some other way, please share your ideas or information with us.
