A Maxwell tent was erected at the Oklahoma Games and Gathering in Tulsa for the first time in September 2002, with many Maxwells and allied family members stopping by to get acquainted and learn about their Scottish heritage.
The games, held overlooking the Arkansas River in downtown Tulsa’s Chandler Park, began with a traditional Fire Ceremony on Friday evening. Jim Curtis, Clan Maxwell Society’s Commissioner for Oklahoma, was on hand with his son, Kenyon, to represent the clan in giving our motto and war cry. Then on Sunday, they and other Maxwells marched in the Parade of Clans at opening ceremonies, led by a Marine Corps Junior ROTC color guard and seven pipe bands.
Clan Maxwell Society’s first appearance at these games was a great success, and all Maxwells and allied family members in Oklahoma should make this event a “must do” in 2003.
