your namesake and my gggg-grandfather, william maxwell was born in 1790, probably in Ulster.
He had a son, John born in 1820 who married a Jane Green. They had a son, John in 1845 who married a Dinah Reid.
They had James 1868 – 84, Robert 1870-1953 (my g-grandfather) Jane Anne – 1871-91, John Reid 1874-?, Elizabeth 1876-?, Mary 1879-93, and Agnes Rea 1882-?
Robert married Grace Crawford and they had three children but now we’re into the 20C.
hope that helps
